Island Park / West Yellowstone--Snow and Avalanche Information
We finally have some sunshine to brighten our days--but, more snow is on the way toward the end
of the week.
We have lots of great powder to carve up, and there are plenty of groomed trails to
access some great riding.  However--
Dangerous areas of unstable snow still exist on cold, north and
east slopes and especially on wind-loaded slopes on any aspect.  So--you should
avoid off-trail
travel on steep slopes (>30 degrees), in gullies, or near "run-out" zones.
  Many steep slopes are still
RIPE for a slide-- don't trust any steep slope--even when it is covered with tracks!!!  Do NOT be
fooled by the seemingly solid slabs--they will fracture and NAIL you!!
